Parish Response Team

In the peak months of our hurricane season, the best defense is preparedness. If a storm threatens our area, many people will need to leave their homes for higher ground and safer shelter. If you live in a mobile home, a low lying area, or near any body of water, evacuation is a must. The safety and comfort of all parishioners is a concern of the Church. If you have not already completed a Hurricane Emergency Information Form or need to update a previous form, please contact the Church office or see a member of the Pastoral Care Committee. This form, which is filed in the office, tells us who might need shelter in the event of a storm and who could provide shelter to someone in need. Please call Beverly Knapik in the church office (727) 725-4726. if you need to provide or update this information.

The congregation has to pull together to ensure that none of our members falls through the cracks with respect to emergencies, communion, and just keeping in contact with the rest of us. All of us have busy lives, so for that reason, the Pastoral Care Committee, has devised a means for spreading the responsibility as widely as possible. We would like the whole congregation to participate in a Response Team. What is involved is simply signing on for particular duties, such as giving someone a ride, or picking up groceries, or giving someone a call just to keep in touch.

How it will work---
No one on the Response Team will have a permanent assignment. Your name and phone number will be listed according to what you are willing and able to do, even if it's just to make some phone calls. For each occasion of need the list will be polled until we find someone who can do a job. If you can't manage it on that occasion, you'll be called upon another time. Obviously, the more people who participate in the Response Team the easier it will be for everyone, and the better the system will work. Please participate. The need for a Response Team has always been present. But now we do have to act. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board. Fill in your name and telephone number, email address if you have one, and check off what services you are able to do.

Keep the Response Team Informed
All the names on a list will be of no use unless we know what the parish needs are. If you, or someone you know, has an emergency or a regular need, give one of the Pastoral Care Committee members a call. The committe members will start the ball rolling. Don't be shy or feel that you are imposing if you are the one in need.

A True Community
Please help the Pastoral Care Committee make this effort work. We can't do it alone. All of us at Holy Spirit want to encourage and maintain a sense of community in our parish. We reach outside the church to others, let us also help one another.
