The Thrift Shop is a volunteer activity of the parish which provides high quality goods at low prices as well as funds for Safety Harbor Church and Community Outreach and other activities. It’s been many years since we opened the red door to “the best kept secret in Safety Harbor.” Could we have imagined ever what a contribution the Thrift Shop would be to the community and our church?

When the shop was being set up, we all cleaned out our closets and cupboards to fill the shelves. We worried about how we would get enough merchandise to keep the shop stocked. Now, ten years later, the donations come in week after week, not only from our Parish but from the community. With love and tender care the items are washed, ironed, cleaned, repaired and readied for the shop by the Monday morning volunteers. Many of our customers are in need of clothing and housewares at a bargain and many are just “bargain hunters.” There are also some who just need someone to talk to and a friendly smile. Each week our shop is praised for its organization and “first class” merchandise priced so reasonably. All of these tasks could never be accomplished if it weren’t for ALL of you!

Located next to the parish hall, the Thrift Shop is open Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM.Donations (which are tax deductible) of household goods and clothes in good condition are always welcome, as is volunteer help with the shop.

Please Help!

The Holy Spirit Shop continues to make a major contribution to the goals of our parish. Each year the Shop contributes approximately $25,000 to the church's budget. By now, you know that our outreach programs also benefit shoppers in need as well as local bargain hunters. In addition, many others receive donations directly from the Thrift Shop, including the Farm Workers and Sea Farers Ministries, Kimberly house, the people of Kenya and Appalachia, St. Vincent de Paul, and DACO.

What an achievement! Our volunteers are dedicated and faithful to accomplish all this.

But all worthwhile endeavors must be continually re-nourished and renewed. Many of our long-time and loyal workers are no longer able to contribute as much as they once did. Some have moved away, some have conflicting obligations or other commitments that must take precedence. With fewer and fewer helpers, it is particularly difficult to keep the store going during the summer. We welcome your help!

If you can donate an hour or two a week, please leave your name at the church office. We can be creative in using your time and talents. Just let us know that you want to help keep this worthwhile ministry going.

For more information on donating goods or time, please e-mail or call the Thrift Shop Mondays from 9AM-Noon, or during operating hours at (727)725-4726.
